One Subject, Two Compositions

In one of his recent blog entries, the distinguished photographer Jim Zuckerman observes that the sun can be made salient in a composition by the use of super-telephoto lenses.  That reminded me of something similar I had done last year on the island village of Divar in Goa.  I had both the 300L f/4 IS (not quite the reach of 700mm that Jim had for his shot) and the 135L lenses mounted on my EOS 5D bodies, and it made for an instructive comparison.

The emotional impact of the two compositions is rather different. The first goes with optimism. The second goes with solitude. The colors are lovely!
