Course Description
Advances in digital technology have made photography accessible to all. Today a basic point-and-shoot digital camera comes packed with a raft of sophisticated controls and features. But to fully exploit the camera’s power and realize the photograph you see in your mind’s eye calls for an understanding of the basic principles and techniques of photography. Often a casual snapshot can be parlayed into an attractive image with basic training.
This course is designed to provide the essential knowledge required to further your enjoyment & practice of photography. Our emphasis will be on equipping you with practical tools, not on technical jargon. You must have a digital camera (compact, dSLR etc – any type of camera is fine) and know how to handle & operate it. You must have access to a computer with an internet connection. Basic familiarity with image retouching software is preferable but not essential. Most computers these days come pre-loaded with some form of photo processing software – we can individually discuss the options you have available.
If you are a complete novice with a desire to get started, this is the course for you. If you love to record precious memories of your family, vacation, special events, or travel adventures, this class will help sharpen your talents in that direction.
The course will be of 6 weeks duration. On a specified day every week, you will receive a new lesson with an accompanying assignment. The assignment will require you to shoot and submit photos in a variety of situations. I will provide individual critiques on each of the photographs you submit. This review and feedback loop will form an important component of the course. We will work in a supportive environment in which learning is both fun and rewarding.
