About Rajan Parrikar
I was born and raised in Goa. I moved to the USA in 1988 for graduate study and obtained a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
My photographic interests lie in Landscape, People, and aspects of Culture.
Goa and Iceland together serve as my lodestar. My work in Goa encompasses the land, its people, its cultural heritage, and its sui generis ethos. I have documented the decay of Goa‘s environment and identity thanks to India’s malign influence.
Over the last 15 years I have traveled all over Iceland in an ongoing exploration.
I am also a musician with a lifelong immersion in the musical traditions of India.
Silicon Valley in California was my home for 25 years. I now live in Iceland.
I maintain an active blog. For image licensing or pricing on prints you may email me.
My images are an expression of my aesthetic temper, not a documentation of “reality” (unless I have my photojournalist hat on). I strive to preserve the integrity of the scene before me. I typically work with a single exposure and very rarely blend multiple exposures. I do not replace skies or insert external elements but I may erase objects that detract from the composition. What you see here are photographs, not composites or digital art.
My artistic impulse is best conveyed in the words of the mathematician Hermann Weyl:
"My work always tried to unite the true with the beautiful; but when I had to choose one or the other, I usually chose the beautiful."
